We need you, the CSUSB student to get involved! And there are so many ways to do it! Regardless of your background and past experience, there is a place for you within our organization. Whether it is serving as a student representative on the ASI Board of Directors, the Finance Committee, the Club Allocation Budget Committee, or as an elected executive of ASI (the list goes on and on), there are many ways to get involved, build leadership and serve our students.

There are several standing committees that meet frequently, sometimes weekly throughout the year. Each committee is comprised of memberships that include an executive officer representation from the Board of Directors and/or Students-at large who may or may not have other involvements with ASI.

Listed below are brief descriptions of the different boards and committees that have vacancies at this time. If there is one that you are interested in joining, simply download the appropriate application using adobe acrobat, complete the application and return it to SMSU RM-108. We look forward to working with you to make a difference here at CSUSB.

 

Campus Photo ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE
This committee is chaired by the Vice-President of University Affairs. This committee is responsible for planning special events, speakers, concerts and the movie night program. In addition, this committee regularly co-sponsors large scale events with other campus organizations such as the Student Union Program Board, Women's Resource Center, Alumni Affairs and the Cross-Cultural Center.

 

CLUB ALLOCATION BUDGET COMMITTEE
This committee is chaired by the Vice-President of Finance. The CAB Committee is responsible for allocating funds to recognized CSUSB student clubs and organizations. It also facilitates quarterly CAB workshops for club officers to train on the application and CAB funding process. Applications for CAB funding are available at the ASI Office (SMSU RM-108).

 

Jack Brown Hall Photo ELECTIONS COMMITTEE
The Chair of this committee is a Student-at-Large appointed directly by the ASI President. The committee is additionally comprised of 4 students-at-large not currently holding positions in ASI or running for office. The Elections Committee is responsible for conducting ASI elections and making rulings on elections violations as well as recommending changes in election guidelines and procedures.

 

FINANCE COMMITTEE
This committee is chaired by the Vice-President of Finance. The CAB Committee is responsible for allocating funds to recognized CSUSB student clubs and organizations. CSUSB Entrance Photo FACULTY SENATE COMMITTEES
In addition to the Committees that fall directly under the BoD leadership, there are several other committees on campus that require student representation to ensure that progress made by these committees continue to have the voice of the CSUSB student. The student representatives for the Faculty Senate and Campus-wide committees listed on this Website are appointed by the ASI Board of Directors.

 

Curriculum Committee – This committee reviews all curriculum proposals, including experimental courses. It approves student proposals for undergraduate special majors and proposals for special masters programs. It also reviews credential programs, graduate degrees, and other post-baccalaureate programs and curriculum. Additionally, it is responsible for implementing campus policy on course deletion.

 

Educational and Policy Resources Committee – This committee evaluates, initiates, and reviews educational policies and plans. It familiarizes itself with the budget allocations at the divisional level, and makes budget recommendations to the President or designee.

General Education Committee – This committee reviews all proposed changes in the general education curriculum, and makes recommendations to the Curriculum Committee.

Library Committee – This committee reviews and recommends allocation of educational resources within the library.

 

CAMPUS WIDE COMMITTEES

Academic Computing and Media Committee – This committee creates and reviews policies concerning technological information such as storage, access, retrieval, and transmission of electronic media and information on the campus.

Athletic Advisory Committee - This committee assists the development of policies and procedures for the athletic program. It also establishes criteria for the addition or elimination of sports programs.

Calendar Committee - This committee sets the academic calendar at least 18 months in advance for the University's scheduling operation.

Campus Planning Committee – This committee makes recommendations regarding the long-range planning of the physical development of the campus.

Children's Center Advisory Committee – This committee advises on the operational aspects of the Children's Center on campus including curriculum development, health, and safety issues.

Copyright/Fair Use Committee – This committee is in charge of developing and implementing copyright use policies for the campus.

Emergency Loan Advisory Committee - This committee reviews and recommends policies governing the Emergency Student Loan Program.

Facilities Use Committee – This committee interprets the Buildings and Grounds Use policy.

Instructionally Related Programs (IRP) – This board's responsibility is to solicit and evaluate proposals for instructionally related activities that are then submitted to the University President for review.

International Student Services Advisory Committee – This committee provides advice and support in the development and implementation of programs and services for international students.

Outstanding Faculty Advisor Committee – The purpose of this committee is to select the Outstanding Faculty Advisor for the academic year.

Scholarship Committee – This committee's work concentrates on the selection of scholarship recipients for the following academic year. This committee also administers ASI's scholarship contributions.

Service Learning Coordinator's Advisory Board – The Strategic Action Team (SAT) develops a plan for service learning on the campus and determines methods for implementing the plan throughout the state.

Services to Students with Disabilities – This committee provides input on campus policies and procedures regarding support services and accessibility for students with disabilities.

Sexual Harassment Committee – This committee develops policies and programs to ensure the campus is free from sexual discrimination and harmful or hostile work practices.

Student Aid Committee – This committee reviews and makes decisions regarding student appeals for loss of financial aid.

Student Fee Advisory Committee – This committee reviews requests for the establishment and/or adjustment of the mandatory student fees and provides recommendations to the University President.

Student Grade Appeal Panel/Academic Grievance Panel – This hearing committee reviews grievances concerning student grading and evaluation practices by faculty.

Student Health Advisory Committee – This committee reviews and makes recommendations about program and policy development for the general operation of the Student Health Center.

Transportation and Parking Committee – This committee discusses all aspects of campus roadways and development of parking lots. It also reviews budgets for Parking Services fines and forfeiture.

University Budget Council – This council is responsible for determining criteria regarding the distribution of extra funds and contingency reserves across the campus, as well as methods for covering additional University expenses.

University Diversity Committee – This committee is composed of a cross section of University representatives and reports directly to the University President. It works with faculty, staff, and students to increase awareness and acceptance of individual and group diversity through activities, programs and curriculum development.
